Avowed Final Review – A Nostalgic Fantasy with Fresh Ideas

After completing Avowed, I can confidently say it was a fantastic journey from start to finish. Obsidian Entertainment has once again delivered an RPG that blends immersive storytelling, engaging mechanics, and memorable characters into a cohesive and enjoyable experience.

Characters & Companions

One of Avowed’s biggest strengths is its character. The companions feel alive, each with unique personalities, struggles, and contributions to the journey. Their presence isn’t just for combat or exposition—they feel like true allies, and I found myself deeply attached to them.

The camp system is a standout feature. It provides a dedicated space for upgrades, but more importantly, it serves as a hub where you can bond with your companions. It’s reminiscent of classic RPGs but feels fresh in execution, giving a sense of home in an otherwise perilous world.

Combat – A Strategic Puzzle

At first, Avowed’s combat seemed straightforward, but by the end, I found it addicting. The battles felt like puzzles—strategizing spell placement, commanding companions, and optimizing abilities kept each fight engaging. It wasn’t just about raw power but tactical decision-making, which made every encounter satisfying.

Story – Strong but Occasionally Confusing

The narrative of Avowed is compelling, earning a 7/10 in my book. The premise is fantastic, with plenty of twists and meaningful choices that impact the play-through.

However, if you skip key side missions, some story elements might feel unclear, making the main plot a bit disorienting at times. That said, the ending was rewarding, and the choices you make along the way genuinely matter.

Final Verdict: 8/10

Avowed masterfully blends nostalgia with fresh mechanics. Though the story could have been a little clearer, the engaging combat, well-developed characters, and excellent camp system more than make up for it.

It’s a game that respects its predecessors while carving its path—a must-play for RPG fans.
